New Yorkers interested in making their city more democratic now have a 527 political committee: The Committee for the Democratic Rights of New Yorkers.

We’re all-volunteer, rent-free, and don’t pay taxes on your contributions. Every nickel goes to expenses: petitioning supplies, printing, web hosting, etc. We keep things bare-bones and get a lot of great stuff for free, but the unavoidable costs add up. If you believe there are some things the people are in a better position to decide than their public servants, but can’t give any time to the cause, pitch in with a contribution. Every bit really does help.

You can make a secure donation online via Paypal or you can just send a check (made out to Committee for Democratic Rights) to:

    Committee for Democratic Rights
    c/o Micheas Yohannes
    39 Saint Mark’s Place, #1
    Brooklyn, NY 11217-1911

Either way, be sure to include your full name and residence address if it’s not on your check or Paypal, or we’ll run afoul of campaign finance disclosure laws. Note also that political contributions are not tax deductible, though you can be damn sure they will be used as effectively as possible towards winning real democracy for NYC.

Ultimately, even if we can run on pennies most days, mounting a citywide campaign against the powers that be is going to take a bit of dough.  So…pony up for a more democratic future!

    Thanks.

    Any thoughts?
