Help put real democracy on the ballot
To put real democracy—or as close as we can get—on the ballot, we need your help: 90,000 signatures!
That may sound daunting, but our open ended petitioning period allows for a chain letter style drive with very little work for each person. If you convince just two registered NYC voters this week to sign our petition when we circulate it, and they do the same the following week, we’ll have more than enough people ready to sign when the time comes.
If you’ll sign the petition, or might like to help in some other way,
- Sign up for announcements at the bottom of the right sidebar (be sure to confirm your subscription email), and look out for emails from “lowercase d”.
- Take a look at the petition training posts before downloading petition forms and hitting the street. Not a requirement, but its a damn good idea if you intend to gather your signatures from the public quickly and legally.
- Think of people that might be fun to petition with and sign them up. At least one person in every two person team must have been registered to vote in the city at the last general election. Of course, folks with lots of free time are especially valuable!
- If you are interested in participating in other ways, like: performance in a summer concert, logistical support, overnight storage or delivery of petitioning supplies, or if your business/organization would like to host a petition, let us know.
- In any case, it’s going to take some dough to win this, so toss in a few bucks.
If the chain letter style method doesn’t pan out, some of us will have to roll up our sleeves and make up the difference, laughing all the way, in which case you might also:
